I believe it boils down to basic human emotions:

1. Greed
2. Jealousy
3. Fear

Going further towards basics, Sigmund Freud said that man is driven by only two things: Power and Sex.

  1. Considering Power and Sex are normal reason to do anything in the world, can be we consider Satyam’s brave feat as normal? 😛

  2. Looking at the corporate scams across the globe, this feat is normal. Expect more corporate skeletons in the coming months.

Hitler said bigger the lie, bigger the chances of people believing in it. Satyam’s scale was large by Indian standards. That it is what a poster boy of Indian IT is disturbing people.

That’s applicable to any fraud for that matter. Satyam case is no different. He was caught between his own greed which lead to invariably collusively screwing the company year on year. Greed also comes with fear of unknown and intimidation by the guilt. It had to burst somewhere!
